Best LGBT dating apps for queer people

I'm new to dating - especially online dating. I'm 32 and just got out of a 10-year relationship. I have a burly, bearded look, but I dress in feminine clothing. I'd prefer to meet people in person, though I'm still figuring out where to go.

Right now, I'm trying Sniffies and Grindr. I've chatted with some interesting people and gotten a lot of unusual requests because of my appearance. However, it hasn't led to an actual date yet. We message, but nothing really happens. Is that normal for online dating?

I'm pansexual and would also like to meet trans women, but on these apps, it seems that most trans women are mainly looking for other trans women.

I'd really appreciate any advice - not just about finding the right apps, but also general dating tips for a non-binary person.

You should try Feeld. It has all kinds of people with different genders, sexualities, and interests. You can find people looking for everything from one-night stands to long-term relationships. In my experience, everyone has been very respectful.

HER is a dating app that’s very welcoming to trans and poly people. It was originally made for women who love women but is now open to everyone, and it’s mainly used by the queer community. There are fewer users than on Tinder, but the conversations are better, and I’ve gotten more dates from it. I also love using it to find local queer events and friends through its community chats, especially when I travel for work.

My favorite LGBT dating app was actually an Instagram account called Personals, which later became Lex. People posted creative, text-only ads, and others would message them if interested. I love the creativity, but I actually prefer meeting people in real life. I met my current partner on a dating app, but all my exes were IRL meetings.

I’ve tried a few different apps over the years, and honestly the best one really depends on what you’re looking for - dating, friendship, or something more community-focused. I noticed that apps with better moderation and clear profiles tend to feel much more comfortable and genuine. Smaller or niche platforms sometimes work better than the big mainstream ones because people are more intentional there.
